Frequently Asked Questions
What is it like to work with you? How often should we meet?
I work with students at all stages of the personal statement writing process, from brainstorming to reviewing outlines to final edits. Rather than offering a pre-packaged set of services, I tailor my sessions to my students. Some students come in with a draft, and others haven't started at all. Some students meet for just one session, and others ask for one or a few rounds of electronic review. You can mix and match my services to fit your needs!
What do you look for in edits?
I consider the following areas in my reviews:
Addressing the prompt
Authenticity and voice
Organization, structure, flow
Focus, clarity, vision
Word count
Grammar, spelling, mechanics, typos
Will you write my essay for me?
I will not write your essay for you. I will expect you to produce your own work. The personal statement writing process is a valuable experience of learning more about yourself, and you are the best person to tell your story.
Where Can You Meet?
I am available to meet in-person in the Seattle/Bellevue area or by phone or video platform. I can also provide electronic feedback by email. Note: During COVID-19, I am only meeting students remotely.
Will I get into my Dream School?
I do not guarantee admission into any specific school. The personal statement is only one part of a holistic application process, including your experiences, grades, activities, test scores, and recommendation letters. Schools are looking for the best fit for their incoming student body as well, and admissions factors can vary by year.
