My Approach
My coaching approach is based on these values:
Authenticity
I believe that the most effective personal statement brings out your authentic voice, values, and experiences. I will support you as you create a piece of writing that draws out your personal story, based on real experiences and shared in your own voice.
Relationship
I believe in building genuine relationships with my students. I will invest time in learning about you and your experiences, passions, struggles, and dreams. By knowing more about you, I can more effectively provide feedback on your writing and coach you in bringing out your story.
Integrity
I believe in work driven by integrity. I expect you to produce your own writing. I will offer guidance on questions to consider, suggest content organization and structure, help you to find your voice, and point you to ways to improve your writing.
Commitment
I believe success depends on commitment to the process over time. Each draft brings a fresh dose of clarity and refinement. Investing in this process means starting the writing process early, preparing for sessions, and committing to seeing the process through to the end.
Perspective
I believe the personal statement is just one part of a holistic application process. While I don’t specifically coach test prep or other aspects of the application process, it's important to keep a big picture perspective. I keep this approach in mind as I work with you on your essay.
